The East Coast of the United States is becoming rather competitive in slot machines. Racetracks all along the coast are beginning to offer online casino gambling parlors on their facilities. Pennsylvania opened their first racetrack slot parlor in November and is now talking about building slot parlors in Philadelphia. Florida racetracks also opened their slot parlors. Slots have been operation in Delaware racetracks for a while.
There are also quite a few Indian tribal casinos along the East Coast to rival the racetrack slot parlors, in addition to Atlantic City. How do the Pennsylvania slots rate in comparison to others during their first month of operation?
They have the lowest payouts on the East Coast according to the December 16, 2006 Kennebec Journal. The Pennsylvania racetracks payout averaged at 89.73%. The highest payouts on the East Coast were at Hollywood Slots in bingo games, Maine, averaging at 93.3%. The average payout on the East Coast is 91.07%. These figures indicate that the Pennsylvania racetracks are not competitive in terms of payout.
They are a monopoly in Pennsylvania in terms of slot machine gambling, but Atlantic City is only a short drive away. The tightness of the racetrack slots may result in players traveling to nearby Atlantic City where the machines are looser. People won’t go to the track just to play bingo and the slots. They’ll go where the looser machine are. The racetracks will still have the people who come to bet on horses and play slots as a time filler. |
